This is just to say: spoken word open mic night

October 4 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us in the library on the first Tuesday of every month to enjoy all manner of word-weaving, story-sharing and spell-casting.

We welcome poets, storytellers, and writers of all kinds to share their work (or the work of others) in a safe, supportive, and inclusive space.

Oxfordshire’s Great Big Green Week was Sept 24th – Oct 2nd, a week of events helping and encouraging people and organisations to act to help tackle the climate crisis, and to protect and improve our environment. Last month, we centred our This Is Just to Say session on the Great Big Green Week’s theme of “energy”. This month, we will be theming our evening’s proceedings on HEALING. We want to hear your pieces on healing of all kinds – ecological, environmental, spiritual, physical… We look forward to hearing your interpretations, and will prioritize performers with pieces riffing on this theme.

Every month we feature a performer with a slightly extended set and this month’s featured performer to grace our stage is JC Niala. JC Niala is an award winning playwright, nature writer and poet. Her artists’ journal of poems Portal: 1918 Allotment details the year in which she recreated an allotment in the style of the year 1918. Having previously worked in healthcare for over 2 decades her poetic practice currently explores what it means for Mother Earth and her people to heal.

Slots are 5 minutes long, and performers sign up on the door – first come, first served! Performers entry is free!

All very welcome to just come and listen. This event is non-ticketed, with entry £5 on the door (£2 concessions/Patreon patrons).

Doors at 7.30pm (performers advised to arrive a little earlier!)

Note: there is no bar but the event is BYOB (wine and beer only, no spirits please!) and this event is 18+
