This Is Just To Say: spoken word open mic

March 7, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
£5

Join us in the library on the first Tuesday of every month to enjoy all manner of word-weaving, story-sharing and spell-casting.

We welcome poets, storytellers, and writers of all kinds to share their work (or the work of others) in a safe, supportive, and inclusive space.

This month, our session falls the day before International Women’s Day, so our theme is “IN OUR HANDS”. Interpret this as you will – feeling empowered and strong, or more about physicality and the sense of touch. Or all of the above!

Every month we feature a performer with a slightly extended set and this month’s featured performer to grace our stage is Em Pritchard. Em Pritchard is a poet and bookseller from Oxford. They have performed in the BBC Fringe Slam and the Roundhouse slam, are a member of The Writing Squad, were specially commended in the Wasafiri New Writing Prize, and have poems published in magazines including The Rialto, Magma and Oxford Poetry. They have a masters in Poetry and Poetics from the University of York, where they wrote about Elizabeth Bishop’s butch poetics and the queer trees of Frank O’Hara. They love graphic novels, personal essays and, right now, roller derby.

Slots are 5 minutes long, and performers sign up on the door – first come, first served! Performers entry is free!

All very welcome to just come and listen. This event is non-ticketed, with entry £5 on the door (£2 concessions/Patreon patrons).

Doors at 7.30pm (performers advised to arrive a little earlier!)

Note: there is no bar but the event is BYOB (wine and beer only, no spirits please!) and this event is 18+
