Makaris at the Meadow: Zine Launch and Multilingual Poetry Reading
August 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
This event is delivered in collaboration with The Burner, an Oxford art collective.
Makar, ‘maker’, was the Older Scots word for poet, as immortalised in William Dunbar’s Lament for the Makaris. Makar retains the identity of creative practical activity and art from which our ‘poetry’ stems: the Ancient Greek poieō meant to make and to compose poetry. If poets are makers, then translators of poetry are doubly-so.
Makaris at the Meadow will be the launch of the From Apples to Oranges poetry zine and an evening of multilingual poetry reading. The Burner is seeking submissions consisting of original translations of poetry for both the zine and the reading. No prior experience in poetry translation is required! Submissions are open until the 22nd of August and can be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org
