LIT Reading / Writing Group

Following the success of our What Is Feminist Poetry? Performance and Discussion event in late 2017, we set up a reading and writing group for cis and trans women, trans men, non-binary people, and people of other minority genders to share their own work and the work of others. We recognise the complexity and limitations of language that can occur when describing gender-specific groups but are inclusive of anyone who self-identifies as the above genders.

Sensing an appetite for a space for non-cis-male-identifying people to share work, play writing games, experiment with language and talk about poetry, we created these monthly sessions as a fun and casual opportunity to come together and celebrate writing. We meet the third Monday of every month at 7.30pm, mostly online over Zoom, and sometimes in person at The Community Works. We always welcome new members – you don’t need to have written before, have any particular skill level or experience, and you don’t need to book.

To join us: we largely keep in touch about sessions through Whatsapp, so drop us a line at oxfordpoetrylibrary@gmail.com if you’d like to join the group and if you have any questions! You are also welcome to just come along to any session, without the need to book. The Zoom link and full details about each session are advertised on the individual events pages on the Event Calendar here.

Our Statement of Aims, Values & Principles can be found here.

Accessibility Information

Thinking about coming along? Here’s some information on how to find us, and how to help make it as comfortable as possible.

Our meetings are held mainly online on Zoom, but we occasionally run in person at The Community Works, a community space at 21 Park End St (OX1 1HU, opposite Said Business School and the train station). Whether or not a session is online or in-person is flagged clearly through our Whatsapp group and on the individual events pages on the Event Calendar here.

There is wheelchair access to The Community Works in the entrance on Becket St, and disabled parking on Becket St. There is a disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities. The toilets are gender-neutral.

Again, if you have any questions about accessing the group meetings, please just drop us a message at oxfordpoetrylibrary@gmail.com.

We look forward to meeting you!
