SUMMARY:Getting Started with Poetry: 'The Everyday'
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’ve never written a poem before\, have just started to write\, or aren’t sure if what you’re writing is poetry\, this monthly workshop is a chance to carve out some time for writing.In each workshop\, we’ll read a poem together\, and use it as our starting point. We’ll suggest some prompts you could take from the poem\, and ideas you might like to borrow.  There will be plenty of time to write\, and plenty more prompts if you get stuck. At the end of the session\, you’ll be able to share what you’ve written in a supportive environment.All you need to bring is yourself – these workshops are here for you to enjoy writing and build confidence in your voice. The workshop is open to anyone aged 16+. \nIn our first workshop we’ll be thinking about ‘The Everyday’\, hunting for the specifics in our day-to-day lives that might make a poem – the shared routines\, private rituals\, and familiar places. \nTell us you’ll be coming by booking a ticket here. \nThe Oxford Poetry Library is an accessible space but please do contact us in advance if you have specific requirements. You can email us about this or with any questions about the workshop at oxfordpoetrylibary@gmail.com or fill in the contact form below. \n\n← Back Thank you for your response. ✨\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nName(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nEmail(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nWebsite\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nMessage\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n \n \n \n Submit \n \n \n \nΔ

SUMMARY:This Is Just To Say - spoken word open mic night
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the library on the first Tuesday of every month to enjoy all manner of word-weaving\, story-sharing and spell-casting. \nWe welcome poets\, storytellers\, and writers of all kinds to share their work (or the work of others) in a safe\, supportive\, and inclusive space. \nSlots are 5 minutes long\, and performers sign up on the door – first come\, first served! Performers entry is free! \nAll very welcome to just come and listen. This event is non-ticketed\, with £5 on the door. \nDoors at 7.30pm (performers advised to arrive a little earlier!) \nEach month we will also showcase the work of a particular creator with an extended set. In July\, this will be Stilly’s Terrible Drawn Tales. Stilly has lived in Iffley\, Oxford for the past 18 years. Originally from Yorkshire he is a storyteller\, poet and illustrator who combines all three arts to create something both traditional and new. Imagine a magic lantern show with a powerpoint projector and you’re nearly there. Think of an episode of the Twilight Zone performed by Stanley Holloway\, with pictures by Edward Gorey and words by Roald Dahl\, and you’re not even close. Macabre settings\, twisted endings and saucy tales to thrill\, bewilder and amuse. \nNote: there is no bar but the event is BYOB (wine and beer only\, no spirits please!) and this event is 18+ \n

SUMMARY:Writing New Histories of Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Oxford is a city rich in histories beyond the university. These histories are often part of the present\, and of our everyday lives. \nThis free writing workshop is aimed at residents of Oxford who wish to put into words and images their experiences and memories of the city.  \nWe will explore local and individual memories of everyday life in Oxford\, and will encourage participants to share their own experiences\, with a view to including them in a book that celebrates Oxford’s communities\, and using extracts of the workshop writing in exhibition panels at the Museum of Oxford. No previous experience of writing is required – just be willing to share your memories and experiences\, and be ready to give writing a go. \nThis is a TORCH initiative in partnership with the Museum of Oxford and Oxford Poetry Library\, and workshops will be facilitated by Patrick McGuinness\, poet and writer\, and author of Real Oxford\, a book about the city beyond the dreaming spires. \nNo need to book – drop in from 2pm to 4pm to join in! \nOxford Poetry Library is an accessible space but please do contact us in advance if you have specific requirements. You can email us about this or with any questions about the workshop at oxfordpoetrylibary@gmail.com
