SUMMARY:Poetry You Can Hold: a workshop
DESCRIPTION:Keen to find a whole new dimension to your writing? Collage can be a powerful way to shake things up\, find another way of expressing yourself\, and toy with fresh ideas. Plus it’s fun. \nIn this special one-off event\, Phoebe Nicholson (poet and incorrigible vandaliser of old books) and Maya Little (writer and junk mail forager) will introduce you to some of the experiments\, collages\, and poetic crafts they’ve been working on. Then\, you will get a chance to learn some techniques and create tangible poetry-art pieces of your own to take home. \nThink collage\, paper-folding\, blackout poetry\, found objects\, and the cut-up technique: poetry in all three dimensions. \nAll this and more on 2 August at 1pm at The Community Works. All materials provided. Please book ahead – tickets are limited and are £5 general admission (£2 concessions\, £10 to pay a bit more if you can afford it). Please book ahead here! \nOxford Poetry Library’s building is accessible\, but if you have any specific access needs\, please drop us an email at oxfordpoetrylibrary@gmail.com beforehand. \nMore about the facilitators: \nPhoebe Nicholson is a British-American poet and lexicographer. Her work has appeared in various places online and in magazines\, but you’re better off catching her around the Oxford open mic scene. She also founded and directs the Oxford Poetry Library\, a grassroots\, volunteer-run library of poetry and hub for creative writing and spoken word based in central Oxford. Find her on instagram: @phoebn \nMaya Little is a writer and theatremaker. She won the 2024 Creative Future award\, was shortlisted for the 2025 Bridport Prize\, and longlisted for Nine Arches Press’ Primers. She was a 2023-34 Roundhouse Poet. Her poems have been published in Magma\, Under the Radar and Ink\, Sweat\, and Tears\, among others. She likes making work about connection\, capitalism\, climate\, and anything a bit weird.
