SUMMARY:An evening of poetry with Will Harris\, Jane Draycott\, Joseph Minden
DESCRIPTION:Join Will Harris\, Jane Draycott and Joseph Minden for a reading exploring Englands; counter-Englands; the long\, shadowy lance of memory; knight-strafing; the trembling of leaf-shade; the problems of address; the question of who you are; and the sure joy of received transmission.\n\nBring your own poems to share as there will be open mic slots between readers! \nWill Harris is a London-based writer. He is the author of the poetry books RENDANG (2020) and Brother Poem (2023)\, both published by Granta in the UK and by Wesleyan University Press in the US. He has been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. He helps facilitate the Southbank New Poets Collective with Vanessa Kisuule\, and co-translated Habib Tengour’s Consolatio with Delaina Haslam in 2022. He currently works in extra-care homes and is a Visiting Poetry Fellow at UEA working towards a community-led archive of poets’ work. \nJane Draycott’s new book The Kingdom (Carcanet Press) follows several previous collections including The Occupant\, Over (T S Eliot Prize shortlist)\, Prince Rupert’s Drop (Forward Prize shortlist)\, and her award-winning translation of the medieval dream-elegy Pearl. Her latest book of translations Storms Under the Skin: Selected Poems of Henri Michaux (1927-1954)\, is published by Two Rivers Press. \nJoseph Minden is a poet and secondary school teacher. His recent books are Backlogues (Broken Sleep Books)\, Paddock calls: The Nightbook (slub press) and Poppy (Carcanet). \nThe event will take place on October 24th pm at 7pm at The Community Works\, OX1 1HU. Entry is free but registration is strongly recommended here. \nThe Oxford Poetry Library is an accessible space but please do contact us in advance if you have any access needs\, or have any other questions on oxfordpoetrylibrary@gmail.com.
