SUMMARY:Drafting Table: performance session
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to this new poetry writing group\, where we will share our emerging poems with each other and provide feedback in a safe and inclusive environment. \nMaybe you have been attending the Getting Started sessions and feel ready to edit your work and develop your ideas. Maybe you’re an experienced but unpublished poet who wants to take those next steps in your poetry career. There are no minimum requirements for joining\, poets of all abilities and backgrounds can attend\, just bring a willingness to receive and provide feedback! \nOnce a month\, we will invite a published poet to join us at Gulp Fiction bookstore. There will be a short public reading of their poems followed by a workshop where attendees can learn more about the creative process\, get an insight into what it means to be a poet\, and share our work with each other. August’s poet is Sophie Sparham. Sophie is a poet and writer from Derby. They have written commissions for BBC Radio 4\, The V&A and The People’s History Museum. They host the night Word Wise which won best spoken word night at the 2019 Saboteur Awards. Their latest collection ‘The Man Who Ate 50\,000 Weetabix’ came out in April 2021 via Verve Poetry Press. Sophie’s work has been published in Orbis\, Under the Radar and The Morning Star. Their poem Sunrise Over Aldi won third place in the 2020 Charles Causley International Poetry Competition. Sophie has been longlisted and shortlisted for the Outspoken Award for page poetry. They co-direct Derby Poetry Festival. \nPlease note that workshops are limited to 20 attendees in the upstairs space\, so get there early to avoid disappointment.
